Good leather care does not consist of a single product: The cleaner removes residues, the leather protector supports suppleness and UV protection, and the leather sealant protects heavily used surfaces against abrasion and discoloration.
View VILOU Leather Care Set Select cleaning and careThe following care sequence is intended for pigmented smooth leather. Aniline, semi-aniline, nubuck, and suede leathers, as well as synthetic leathers, require different products depending on the surface. Refer to the care label and test each product in an inconspicuous area for color, feel, and shine.
It has a protective color layer and can be cleaned, cared for and sealed in friction areas using suitable smooth leather products.
Aniline leather can absorb liquid and darken visibly. Use only products expressly approved for this purpose.
Nubuck and suede have a nap. Smooth leather care products can cause this nap to clump together or permanently alter the color and feel.
Does not require conditioning like genuine leather. Observe product approval instructions; flaking coatings cannot be reattached through care.
| product | Main task | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| VILOU Leather Cleaner | Removes everyday dirt and residues | Before conditioning, protecting, or coloring suitable smooth leather |
| VILOU Leather Protector | Nourishes, maintains suppleness and offers UV protection | Especially with older leather furniture that is exposed to sunlight or used regularly. |
| VILOU Leather Sealant | Protects the surface from abrasion and discoloration. | Seat front edges, armrests, piping and light-colored contact surfaces |
| Leather color | It restores color that is already missing or faded. | Only when cleaning and care alone cannot remedy the color loss |
Check seats, seams, edges, and armrests for wear, cracks, or peeling. Care products do not repair structural damage; this must be addressed first.
Carefully remove crumbs from folds and seams with a soft cloth or a suitable upholstery nozzle. Avoid sharp-edged attachments and excessive pressure.
Clean the smooth leather with the VILOU Leather Cleaner Apply sparingly and evenly according to the product instructions. Do not soak or scrub aggressively.
Apply care products or sealants only to clean, dry leather. Do not use strong heat or a hot hairdryer to accelerate the drying process.
Apply a small amount to the VILOU non-woven cloth, spread thinly, and allow to dry without vigorous buffing. Refer to the instructions on the product page and test in an inconspicuous area first.
The leather sealant is applied thinly and evenly to suitable contact and friction surfaces. The order and waiting time between applying the protector and the sealant depend on the respective product instructions.
Check the leather regularly. Heavily used, light-colored, or sun-exposed furniture often needs protection sooner than surfaces that are used less frequently. Rigid, fixed intervals do not replace a regular condition check.
Sitting down and standing up create friction and pressure. Early visible discoloration should not only be treated but also checked for abrasion.
Skin contact brings sweat, grease, and care products to the surface. Regular, gentle cleaning prevents heavy deposits.
Dark clothing can transfer visible dyes. The sealant helps protect the fabric, but it does not replace the need to clean fresh stains promptly.
UV radiation and heat can promote fading and drying out, respectively. Distance, shading, and regular use of a protector work together to prevent this.
This can trap residue and distribute it unevenly. Therefore, always clean properly first.
Thick layers don't automatically provide better protection. They can negatively affect shine, feel, or drying time.
Olive oil, baby oil, vinegar or unsuitable creams are not compatible with the leather surface and can cause stains or problematic residues.
Paint abrasion, deep scratches, and cracks require paint or repair material. Maintenance cannot replace missing material.
This depends on the type of leather, its age, use, color, location, and manufacturer's instructions. Check the condition regularly and repeat the treatment according to the respective VILOU product instructions.
They serve different purposes. The Protector conditions the leather and provides UV protection; the Sealer specifically protects suitable smooth leather surfaces against abrasion and discoloration. Furniture subject to heavy wear can benefit from both.
Leather care should be carried out on clean, dry leather. The intensity of the prior cleaning depends on the degree of soiling.
No.Conditioning can enhance the appearance, but it doesn't replace a missing layer of color. Visible color loss must be corrected with a suitable leather dye, provided the leather is appropriate for the type of leather.
