When it comes to car leather, the new leather color should ideally match the existing interior trim. Universal black doesn't automatically correspond to every manufacturer's color.
Quick test: Leather dye or liquid leather?
Carefully run your fingernail over the damaged area.
- No perceptible indentation: Usually, the right leather color is sufficient.
- The fingernail gets stuck: The area usually requires liquid leather first, followed by leather dye.
Repairing leather in the correct order
- Check material: Check the type of leather and the coating in a hidden area.
- Clean: Thoroughly remove dirt and surface residues.
- Degreasing: Remove skin oils, silicones, waxes and old care products.
- Smooth: Carefully smooth rough spots and loose edges with a sanding pad.
- Fill: Fill deep damages with a thin layer of liquid leather and allow to dry.
- Dyeing: Apply suitable leather dye in several thin layers.
- Seal: Protect repaired areas against further abrasion.
- Maintain: Use a suitable leather protector after the skin has completely dried.
Which types of damage can be repaired by oneself?
Paint abrasion, superficial scratches, minor cracks, notches and small material defects can often be repaired yourself if the substrate is stable.
Severely torn, hardened, extensively peeling, or structurally damaged leather should be assessed by a specialist before any work is carried out. While repairs can improve the appearance and functionality of the damage, a completely invisible restoration cannot be guaranteed in every case.
Not suitable for all types of leather
The color and repair systems offered here are designed for pigmented smooth leather and many suitable synthetic leather surfaces. Do not use on Alcantara, suede, nubuck, or open-pore aniline leather without prior testing. Always test products on an inconspicuous area first.

When is leather dye sufficient?
Leather dye is usually sufficient if only the color layer is damaged and there is no perceptible indentation, no crack, and no missing material.
When is liquid leather needed?
Liquid leather is used for deep scratches, nicks, tears, cuts, dents, and small holes. After filling, the repaired area is matched with a suitable leather color.
What is included in a leather repair kit?
The exact contents depend on the set size. Depending on the version, the sets contain leather dye, liquid leather, cleaner, degreaser, sealant, protector, and suitable accessories for application.
Can synthetic leather be repaired?
Many intact synthetic leather coatings can be repaired in specific areas. However, coatings that are peeling, brittle, or extensively deteriorating cannot be permanently restored using liquid leather or dye alone.
Does the repaired area need to be sealed?
