A sound substrate remains stable within the intended repair system. Loose old colour, crumbling repairs and separating coatings are warning signs. Surface stability does not establish whether a tear has passed through the leather itself.
During repair
New colour cannot automatically make an unstable base durable. Have uncertain or extensive damage assessed and agree on suitable preparation. Avoid aggressive rubbing or tape removal tests on visible areas. The assessment method must suit the leather type and product system.
