Repairing a small tear in a leather seat – instructions

The following procedure applies to suitable smaller cracks in stable, pigmented smooth leather.

Check for damage

Check the length of the tear, its stability, tension, position, and the condition of the surrounding leather.

Clean

Remove dirt and surface residue and allow the area to dry.

Degreasing and smoothing

Remove old care product residue and gently smooth any raised fibers.

Apply liquid leather

Apply the repair compound sparingly to the crack and smooth the surface.

Drying and reworking

Allow to dry completely and refill in several thin layers if necessary.

Dyeing and sealing

Match the repair area to the color and protect it after it has completely dried.

When is liquid leather needed?

Liquid leather is used when a crack, dry break, or deep scratch has a noticeable indentation. It fills the defect and remains flexible after drying.

The repair compound does not replace the leather dye. After filling, the repaired area is matched to the surrounding leather with a suitable color.

Even black, beige, and grey can differ visibly depending on the manufacturer. Therefore, choose the actual vehicle paint color whenever possible.

Can a torn airbag seam be repaired by oneself?

No. Airbag seams and other safety-relevant seating areas must not be repaired, glued, filled or altered independently.

Will the crack become invisible after the repair?

The result depends on the depth, structure, color, and condition of the leather. Many small cracks can be significantly improved visually, but a completely invisible repair cannot be guaranteed.
