The outer bolster of the driver's seat is subject to particularly heavy wear and tear when getting in and out of the vehicle. Typical consequences include paint abrasion, roughened areas, drying cracks, and small tears.
The correct repair depends not only on the size, but above all on the depth, stability and position of the damage.
For car seat repairThe specific steps involved depend on the damage and the product used. Generally, leather repair follows this sequence:

Determine the type of leather, color, depth of damage, stability, and size of the affected area.

Remove dirt, skin oils and surface deposits gently.

Fill cracks, deep scratches and small imperfections with liquid leather if necessary.

Leather colors in cars vary depending on the manufacturer, model, year of manufacture, type of leather, and interior trim. Therefore, a universal black, beige, or gray does not automatically suit every vehicle.

These values represent practical minimum quantities for refreshing a color in a similar shade. Absorbency, color changes, damage, and the number of coats affect consumption.

Consumption may be considerably higher in cases of complete dyeing, highly absorbent leather, or significantly different starting colors.
Many modern car seats are made of pigmented or surface-dyed smooth leather. The leather has a layer of color with a protective finish. Typical color and wear damage to this type of leather can often be cleaned, smoothed, filled, re-dyed, and protected.
However, not all materials in a vehicle interior are genuine leather. Seat surfaces can contain genuine leather, coated leather, synthetic leather, or a combination of materials. Similarly, Nappa, Dakota, Vernasca, Merino, Valcona, and other manufacturer names do not automatically describe the same type of surface.

Color fading, scratches, and minor tears don't automatically mean a car seat needs to be completely reupholstered. As long as the leather and its backing material are still sufficiently robust, many typical signs of wear and tear can be repaired.
In cases of simple color loss, a matching leather dye is often sufficient. Noticeable indentations, deep scratches, and small cracks are first filled and smoothed with liquid leather. The repaired area is then color-matched to the surrounding leather.
Careful preparation is particularly important. Dirt, skin oils, silicones, and old care product residues can impair adhesion. Therefore, the leather is cleaned, degreased, and, if necessary, carefully smoothed before the repair.
The leather dye is not applied thickly in one go. Several thin coats usually result in a more even surface. After the color has been refreshed, a leather sealant protects the dyed layer from further abrasion.
For BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, VW, and other vehicle manufacturers, the exact leather color should be determined as precisely as possible. Manufacturer colors can differ visibly even with the same color name. Therefore, use the appropriate manufacturer category or have the color checked before ordering.
Many superficial damages, such as paint abrasion, fading, scratches, and minor, stable cracks, can be repaired yourself with suitable products. Large holes, airbag seams, and structural damage should be handled by professionals.
Leather dye is sufficient for color abrasion, faded areas and superficial scratches, provided the leather is stable and no noticeable depression needs to be filled.
Liquid leather is needed when deep scratches, cracks, cuts, or small holes require filling. After filling and smoothing, the repaired area is matched with a suitable leather color.
Durability depends on the condition, location, tension, and preparation of the leather. Small, stable cracks can often be repaired permanently. However, with brittle leather or heavily stressed cracks, the damage may recur.
Small holes can be repaired depending on their depth and stability. If a significant amount of material is missing or the underlying material is damaged, simply filling the hole is insufficient and the damage should be professionally assessed.

Drying time depends on the product, layer thickness, temperature, and humidity. Always apply leather dye in thin coats, allow each coat to dry sufficiently, and follow the product-specific instructions.
For a single seat area or side bolster, at least 50 ml is often recommended. For an entire car seat, depending on size, original color, and damage, approximately 100 to 150 ml should be planned for.
