Refreshing, re-dyeing and color-matching leather seats
Color abrasion, faded areas and uneven color patches can often be specifically refreshed on suitable automotive leather.
The key factors are the correct vehicle color, a grease-free surface, and several thin coats of paint. After drying, the leather is sealed and protected.

The exact color depends on the vehicle manufacturer, model, year of manufacture, leather type, and interior trim. Don't rely solely on general color names.
The specific application depends on the product used. Therefore, please also refer to the respective product instructions.

Determine the type of leather, its original color, its condition, and the size of the area to be dyed.

Remove dirt and surface deposits and allow the leather to dry.

Remove skin oils, silicones and product residues, and gently smooth rough areas.

Apply the paint sparingly by dabbing it on; do not spread it in a thick layer.

Allow each layer to dry sufficiently and apply further thin layers if necessary.

Allow the paint to dry completely, then apply a thin coat of sealant and maintain as needed.
Applying a thick layer of paint can clog the grain, cause uneven drying, and alter the texture. Several thin, even coats with sufficient drying time between coats usually allow for a more controllable result.
These values serve as a minimum guideline for a touch-up in a similar shade.

Pigmented smooth leather with color abrasion or fading can often be refreshed at home. Important factors include material testing, thorough preparation, a suitable leather dye, and several thin coats.
Leather dye only evens out the color. Deep scratches, cracks, and holes must be filled or repaired appropriately before dyeing.
The color depends on the manufacturer, model, year of manufacture, type of leather, and interior trim. Even color names like black, beige, or cognac can vary depending on the manufacturer.
Not always. Black car leather can have different undertones and gloss levels. If the leather is a specific manufacturer color, the actual color used should be chosen.
Yes. Skin oils, silicones, and old skincare residues can impair adhesion. A clean and oil-free surface is crucial for the result.
A sealant is particularly recommended for heavily used car seats and seat bolsters. It protects the renewed surface from wear and tear caused by use.
A color change is generally possible on suitable surfaces, but requires significantly more preparation, material and experience than a refresh of the existing color.
For a complete car seat, you should plan on using approximately 100 to 150 ml of a similar color for a refresh. For a seat bolster, at least 50 ml is often recommended.

Not suitable for Alcantara, suede, nubuck, or open-pore aniline leather. Always test products on an inconspicuous area first.
