Why the color name alone is not enough

Manufacturers used different shades depending on the model, year of manufacture, and features. Furthermore, UV light, usage, and previous care can alter the color visible today.

Original color tone

The documented tone of the original interior design is important for comprehensive restoration.

Actual color tone

The aged color tone visible today is often crucial for local repairs.

Determine with certainty

The 5-step method

The more reliable evidence is gathered, the more certain the classification becomes.

Search for equipment or leather code
Document the model and year of manufacture
Check the protected leather area
Clean the comparison area beforehand.
If unsure, send in a sample.
Important

Why photos are not enough

Smartphone cameras, white balance, lighting, and screens all alter colors. Several photos taken in daylight can help with advice, but they don't replace a proper leather sample.

Which position is suitable?

Visible seat bolsters are often more worn. Protected areas under a seat edge, behind a cover, or on a less-used back side are better.

The sample should be clean and representative – not from an extremely faded area.

Typical mistakes

How to avoid incorrect orders

  • order by color name only
  • Do not use uncleaned leather as a reference.
  • Black and grey tones should not be equated across the board.
  • Do not treat a large area without a test area.
  • Do not make a final judgment on wet paint

Create a test area

Apply a thin coat of paint to an inconspicuous area or a test piece. Allow it to dry completely before evaluating it under different lighting conditions.

Matching color – correct system design

Even the perfect color will only adhere to properly prepared leather. Cleaning, degreasing, careful matting, a thin application, and protection are all essential steps. Cracks are repaired before dyeing.
